Hussein Makke, the director and coach of ESMI, works together with his athletes to ensure that they run to their potential, achieve the results for which they strive, and become champions. Makke is also responsible for identifying new talented runners worldwide that can become champions under his tutelage.
In addition to these duties, Makke is in charge of media relations and assisting in the development of strong relationships between the ESMI athletes, sponsors, and race directors around the world.
Originally from Beirut, Lebanon, Makke represented his native country in a variety of international events as a half-miler before retiring to pursue a coaching career. Shortly into his coaching career, Makke became the coach of a high school boy's track team, a job he kept for four years. Under Makke's guidance, five individual runners became state champions and the 1997 4 x 800 relay team won a national title.

Haji Adilo is ESMI's representative in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and he is the head coach of our athletes there. He ran 2:12 in Austria for the marathon during his days competing as an athlete. After retiring from the sport, he became a certified coach. Over the past few years, Haji has become one of the best coaches to discover young talent in Ethiopia and develop athletes to become world class in their respective events. He has developed athletes like Dire Tune, who won the Boston Marathon and has the world record for the one hour run; Bazu Worku, who ran 2:06:15 for his debut in the marathon Paris in '09 (he is the youngest athlete ever to run this fast for the marathon); Deriba Merga, who won the '09 Boston Marathon; Teyba Erkesso, who won the '09 Houston Marathon for her debut; and Atsede Baysa, who won the '09 Paris Marathon.
